Why do the people of some nations seek to return to what destroyed them?
When some governments do the right thing, and govern with integrity, but its people reach for the destructive to govern in their place, it begs the question;
Is it the political version of the ‘Stockholm Syndrome’?
On December 21, 2018 the Opposition Leader of the Republic of Guyana PPP’s Bharat Jagdeo tabled a ‘No-Confidence Vote’ against Guyana’s newly elected government of 3 years, led by the Honourable President David Granger.
Jagdeo’s PPP party up to recently, led Guyana into the abyss of race inequality and criminality over the last 23 years.
However, over the past 3 years, Granger’s new government brought civility and decorum back to governing, and had the privilege of experiencing Guyana’s first ever oil discovery; a phenomenal 4 billion barrel find, with indications of more to come.
This brought out the ‘greed merchants’, hence Jagdeo’s maneuver to table that vote.
It would not have succeeded, if a fringe member of Granger’s cabinet, didn’t ‘turn coat’, and crossed the floor to vote with Jagdeo. The result! Political Chaos!
With Granger ill, currently being treated for ‘Cancer’, Jagdeo had found an opening, and exploited the spineless weakness of a backbencher, Chandarass Persaud.
This will surely lead to elections being called in a few months in Guyana.
The big question, and certainly the most saddening, ‘Will the people of Guyana step back into the black hole of deceit, demagoguery and criminality of Bharat Jagdeo's PPP party, or hold on to the APNU/AFC government of the trustworthy, ethical and honourable David Granger, and secure a strong stable future for their country?
Only election time will tell!
